Productivity Tools for the PTA : Dropbox

This is a series of posts we are writing on productivity tools for the PTA for organization, scheduling and communication. As the first in this series, we are introducing Dropbox for the PTA/PTO. Parent Organizations in schools (PTO/PTA/HSA/PA) are the backbone of the school, running a number of fundraisers and after-school activities for the students. They collaborate with fellow members to run these activities and fundraisers. Dropbox can be a great productivity tool to organize all of the PTA fundraising and events. Dropbox  is one of several productivity tools we use at MobileArq to help with secure and convenint sharing of files.  In this article, we will discuss how you can setup and use Dropbox for your school or state PTA at no cost to you. Dropbox is a great tool for sharing your files and folders with other members in your PTA in a safe and secure environment. The files […]

Crowdfunding for your school

These days, we hear of enormous budget cuts at the state level and district level for education.  It is a pity because this directly affects the future growth of our country and economy. Without a good education, our students are the ones to lose and they are the future of this society If we have to be be at the forefront of Science and Technology and encourage innovation in our kids, we need to foster it at an early age with the right tools. Just as startups do online crowdfunding for implementing their idea or project, school PTAs can now raise money via from their parent population using the MobileArq eCommerce platform. Parents are the best benefactors for a school as they want their children to get access to the best education and enrichment activities. The local community and businesses would also love to help out their local schools to raise […]

Why We all Need a Dave Goldberg to ‘have it all’ as Women?

It is with great sadness we hear about Dave Goldberg, Sheryl Sandberg’s husband’s passing away. We have heard so much about Dave Goldberg.  Not as much as the CEO of SurveyMonkey but more so as the spouse of the famous COO of Facebook and Lean-In champion, Sheryl Sandberg.  I see Dave Goldberg as the man who could make ‘Lean-In’ possible and as a huge advocate for women by not preaching it but practicing. As Sheryl Sandberg acknowledges fully, it would have been impossible for her to be so committed to her job without her husband’s full support. He spent time with the kids every evening according to his colleagues.  What I admire about Dave Goldberg is that he took equal responsibility to take care of his children and be supportive of his wife’s career. It is not just about taking care of the kids. You need your spouse’s emotional support […]

Should You Raise a Happy Child?

Yes and no. Here’s the thing – You want your child to be happy. But you don’t want to make them happy. The difference – When you WANT your child to be happy, that puts them in charge of their happiness. They figure out what brings them joy, they figure out what makes them smile. And as a parent, you are simply in charge of supporting them in their decisions. They learn from their mistakes, and are able to function in the outside world because of this early training. And everything you do, say, and provide will reinforce that idea. But when you want to MAKE your child happy – that puts you in the driver’s seat, but since it’s impossible to know exactly what makes another person happy – you end up buying them everything, taking them everywhere, doing everything for them. Leaving them with no skills whatsoever to […]
